COLOUR, LIGHT & LOCATION

LOCATIONS
As a first response to my question I looked at various locations and experimented with capturing a sense of place by using a variety of media. Often my response were quick sketches as I was focusing on obtaining a 'sense' of the place rather than a very accurate depiction.

As an initial response, I went around the school and experimented with capturing a sense of place through photographs.
On the left, I conducted two loose pen drawings of different areas to represent the dynamicity of these parts of the school.
Above, I created 360° panoramas of the art room using ink and bleach.

To capture a sense of place we also went on a trip to Hambleden weir. We started off by taking photos of the weir and the surrounding area while also doing quick sketches. On the page to the left are photos I took and below are two drawings I did on the day. I did them both loosely with pencil but added colour for one to experiment with how colour can portray the place.

On this page I focused on the textures from around the weir to see how a place can be represented from close-ups of the texture of it and not just the obvious landscape photo.
The A2 graphite drawing was conducted in a small timeframe and was an exercise in freeing up movements to a larger scale. I have tried to maintain a distinct tonal range by pushing hard with the graphite.
